Interior Cleaning and Maintenance

Tips for detailing your vehicle at home.

As soon as you drive your new or new to you Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram vehicle off the Taylor Automotive lot, life and the day-to-day wear and tear through constant use can take a toll. But lucky for you, keeping your interior clean and looking like new is possible with our at-home detailing tips.

Vacuuming carpet and upholstery is your best defense.
From a quick bite of beef jerky to a family-size bucket of chicken with all the sides, even if we try our best to avoid it, we tend to eat in our vehicles. As careful as we may be, crumbs have a way of falling and settling into the cracks and crevices of seats and floormats—leaving the opportunity for some unsavory smells over time. Plus, it only takes one mud puddle or gravel road for us to transfer dirt and other debris from work boots or tennis shoes to the floor of the car. Vacuuming regularly helps protect against crumb, dirt, and grime buildup.

If you need to remove stains, soap and warm water work best—be careful not to over soak the seats or floor as damp fabric can cause mold if not properly dried out.

Apply protective coatings and use gentle cleaners on leather and vinyl.
Follow proper leather conditioning and cleaning directions. The best thing to use to clean leather car seats is a colorless damp cloth (so it doesn’t bleed onto the leather). Consult your owner’s manual for leather cleaner recommendations. Never apply products containing bleach to leather or vinyl. Some people swear by cleaning leather interiors with baking soda, lemon juice, or toothpaste. Taylor Automotive CDJR recommends a pH-neutral leather cleaning solution on your leather interior and seats.

Touch screens, hard surfaces, and glass require different cleaning products.
Using a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol, gently rub a touchscreen in a circular motion to clean. Never use window cleaner on the touch screen. You can wipe down center consoles, door handles, gear shifts, and other hard surfaces with a 70 percent alcohol solution—this solution is effective against most germs including the coronavirus, according to the CDC. Steer clear of commercial detailing sprays that leave the dashboard looking wet or glossy—although they may be clean, the glare caused can be dangerous when driving. Spot clean the inside of all windows with a basic window cleaner.

Be sure to check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for specific care and maintenance suggestions.
